Media team - ideas, tasks
There's no going back now on diaspora yatra. If we are dreaming of people actually starting to use diaspora (which I wasn't actually dreaming for a while), it should get some attention on newspapers, radios, local tv channels, social media, messaging apps, etc.
The thing with India is, if it grows over a critical mass, it will explode like a nuclear bomb. So, all we need to do is reach that mass.
Let's pour in ideas and find people to execute them.

Yeah - Hi,
So we have a draft press release: the usual way to deal with the media is to send this to any and all journalists in areas and publications you want to target. The key thing is the contact details: making sure they are right and that someone is there to answer questions.
In a way this makes the info at the bottom of the release the most important: though kick-ass content is important too.
The approach with media is exactly what you say @akshay : we send a release telling the ournalists what is going on. they may ignore it, they may copy it entirely, or they may get interested and what to do some investigation of their own.
Social media backs up professional media: it's just a more personal approach. With social you are yourself the journalist, so your voice shines through.
One thing to think about is do we just want to send one Press Release (for the launch), or is there any plan for other things to happen: you can always write another release then. For example: when you put a video out, or when partner organisations chip in...

Would make sense to have further releases during the diaspora yatra - videos of people along the way - that sort of thing

If we can get famous people in various social spheres (politics, culture, arts, sports etc) in each district to start using diaspora, that would give novelty to press release and create distinct news value in each district.

Anand will be starting a Facebook page this weekend.

We need a volunteer to setup events.pirates.org.in using wordpress events plugin.

Good Idea Praveen. I will start this excercise at Mysuru in a small way.
I also think , How can we make an entry into Government sector. For example #Indianrailways has a face book page for each Zonal Railway. It is almost official now.
I am with Railways. An entry into people of this sector, especially the managers of middle and upper level, make some sense. I need your support .

@jibujacob I can offer my support in any way I can.

Diaspora team at fossdem conference is proposing a post at blog.diasporafoundation.org I think we should propose a post too. Any volunteers?

Thanks Praveen. I will discuss in detail in coming days.

I think we can start early and stay free later. Copy pasting the last email from Praveen, and my replies.

The matter would be similar for each district, right. We should decide on what it should be.
We should compile or get a list of contacts, phone numbers, email address? I do not know how press works. They usually just publish what we give right? (That's how it was for our college fest :P)
Should we start a facebook/twitter page? :P
We could also get statements from partner organizations. This would lend some credibility. What think?
Using free software if possible. Know anyone video editor?
@adambp you have greater idea how media work.
