Add to manifesto: We will repeal 'Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020', aka 'Love-Jihad' law

RD Ravi Dwivedi Public Seen by 42

The state of Uttar Pradesh passed 'Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020' and now Haryana becomes 11th state to pass such a law https://thewire.in/communalism/haryana-becomes-11th-state-to-table-love-jihad-law-congress-protests-in-assembly.

Background: UP government targets Muslims and puts them into jail for marrying consented Hindu women. It is in BJP’s dreams that the forced religious conversions of Hindus are being carried out, despite there being no evidence of a Muslim plot to convert Hindu women through marriage.

These anti-conversion laws require state approval to change religion through marriage https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/religion-conversion-bill-bjp-7129285/. Conversion to any religion should not require anyone's permission.

Forced religious conversion is already illegal and the new law only attacks Muslims, infantalises Hindu women – and curbs Dalit rights https://scroll.in/article/981591/ups-anti-conversion-law-attacks-muslims-infantalises-women-and-curbs-dalit-rights.

Our promise is to repeal these laws.

Please see other items in manifesto and phrase it like a promise (not like an opinion - for example 'I think'). Agree in principle with editorial changes.

@Pirate Praveen I think your point makes sense. I have rephrased it. Please check.

Thanks, I think it is still too verbose, this is fine for a statement, but I think we just have to focus on what we want to do in manifesto. May be we can make a statement and reference it from the manifesto.

What about "We will repeal anti-conversion laws that require state approval for religious conversion."?

That sounds good.
