Add to manifesto: Ensure open web for all

PB Pirate Bady Public Seen by 129

Article 1, Section 1, of Indian Pirates Constitution mentions that we are committed to support privacy, freedom of information and net neutrality. To make it real we should ensure open web for all.

"Open web" is a sweeping term — it encompasses technical concepts like open-source code and open standards. It also encompasses democratic concepts like free expression and digital inclusion.

But there’s a single underlying principle connecting all these ideas: An open web is a web by and for all its users, not select gatekeepers or governments.

Based on the above points I suggest to add the following, as inspired from Contract for the Web, to our manifesto:

Ensure open web for all:

  • Ensure everyone can connect to the internet by making the internet affordable and accessible to everyone.

  • Keep all of the internet available, all of the time by protecting net neutrality and safeguarding against internet shutdowns.

  • Protect people’s fundamental right to privacy by mandating all data fiduciaries (any person, including the state, a company, any juristic entity or any individual who alone or in conjunction with others who determines the purpose and means of processing of personal data) to respect people's privacy and personal data.

Since the Principles for a Contract for Web align with the principles of Indian Pirates, I also suggest that we should sign the contract at contractfortheweb.org

As pointed out by @Pirate Praveen the proposal doesn't consist of specific actions like amending laws, creating schemes, etc. So we can try to add this to our Basic Principles instead by starting a new poll with necessary rewording.

I observe that this is in perfect alignment with the principles of Indian Pirates

@Bady I think this should go to basic principles of constitution as these are not specific actions we are proposing. Based on these principles we can have specific actions like amending laws, creating schemes etc in the manifesto.
