Language barrier to participation and efforts to lower it

PP Pirate Praveen Public Seen by 363

Currently access to internet and fluency in English is a requirement to participate here. We should try and lower those barriers. Share your ideas.

Lets start with translating our basic principles to all Indian languages. In parallel we should build technical infrastructure to make our website translatable.

Create sub groups for states Closed Sat 4 Jun 2016 10:03AM

We can create new sub groups for states.

This will allow us to focus on local issues and come up with local manifestos. We can have discussions in local languages in these sub groups.

We should go local to go deeper and include people who are not fluent in English.

Language shouldn't be a barrier. We should translate our website as well.

I agree with it. Local Groups help improve communication and reduce the efforts to reach people of different regions.

I think we should create sub group for each state where we have a presence and start discussing local issues in local languages. The aim should be to come up with local manifestos.

I think we should create a sub group for a state when at least 2 associates request it. I will propose a new article so this is documented in the constitution.

  • A new sub group may be requested for a state by a minimum of two associates.
  • These sub groups may discuss local issues and propose items for state level manifesto.
  • These sub groups may use local language to address language barrier.

Also another article specifically for language barrier (how can people who are not fluent can participate in the national policy making?)

  • A new sub group for a local language may be requested by minimum two associates who know that language.
  • These groups may be used for translating constitution, manifesto, policies etc.
  • These groups may also be used to propose changes to those documents, but all such discussions should be translated to English and re-posted to main group, so we don't end up like islands divided by language.

Everyone suggest changes to the previous proposal.
