Pirate movement - what do you feel about the name?

On hearing the title "pirate movement" the first few words that come into an indian common man's mind will be, pirated cds, evil minded people, violence, robbery etc. They are not that much attached to piratebay or torrents. Even if the aim is to promote freedom of expression, self organisation, free knowledge societies etc, the name does not seem to convey any positive ideology(in Indian context). In my opinion this do require a "re-branding" at-least in terms of a catchy positive tag line.

ആംആദ്മി ആയാല്‍ പോലും കേന്ദ്രീകൃതമായ പരമ്പരാഗത ചുറ്റുപാടിലേക്കാണ് ആളുകളെ വലിച്ചിടുന്നത്. അതിന് അഴിമതി തുടങ്ങി നിലവിലുള്ള ചട്ടകൂട്ടിലെ പോരായ്മോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ത് ആളുകളെ കൂടുതല്‍ അന്ധരാക്കുന്നു.

I agree with the OP, it was the first thought that came to my mind when I heard of this name that people are going to misunderstand the movements intentions.Unless we really convince them, people will generally have the impression, that this is possibly illegal stuff.

@akhilg wouldn't it be better to have people joining us convinced by our ideas rather than just the name?

All the existing parties have good names, but is that enough?

Also calling ourselves pirates is a challenge to people who think we will stop sharing knowledge if we are called pirates.

Also for people who care more about name than ideas they can see millions of "good named" organizations around. If name is an excuse not to join us, it is good that we don't have them.
