Equality
I'm proposing to add some explanations to what we mean by "all humans are equal" in the basic principles of the constitution.
See details here https://www.loomio.org/discussions/10175
If you have any suggestions, propose here.

@balasankarchelamat , yes, they'll get equal punishment too. Criminal will be punished for his criminal act and common man would be free. We want to stop crime, punishment is just one of the methods that we employ, any it may not always create the right result. The point of this amendment is to remove the confusion. When it is read as a whole, there won't be any confusion.

@praveenarimbrathod I wasn't talking about punishment. When we need to raise some funds do we accept money from a criminal in the same way we accept it from a common man?? So, treating equally depends on the situation na? So, it is better to change the words rather than to specify those situations. This was what I intended to say. :)

@balasankarchelamat equality is a concept used commonly, it is not a blind equality in all cases. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_equality

@balasankarchelamat how about changing it to "All humans are created equal, but many are denied this right".

//how about changing it to “All humans are created equal, but many are denied this right”.//
Ya, something like that will be better.
// it is not a blind equality in all cases.//
We would then have to specify what it means in different context.
Anyway, my 2 cents is for changing the wordings.. :)

All humans are not equal by birth . I mean everyone has different needs and interest. everyone has different strong points and weak point, but they definitely deserve to be treated equally and have equal civil rights.

I know this thread is a bit old, but still.
How about "Everyone has equal rights over opportunities"?
Everything that come forward from this movement is basically an opportunity right? Be it an opportunity to learn, guide, discuss, contradict or fork, it is an opportunity.

I think equity is a better word to use here. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equity_%28economics%29
@balasankarchelamat How about this?
"We understand individuals and families of all sections of the society and different geographic locations have a right to realize social and economic equity. Economic inequity, caste or gender or sexuality based discrimination, and differential abilities prevent many from realizing the equity of opportunities. We work towards securing this right for all."

From the experience at PPIN, I think we need to specify what is the scope of this "equality". Or, change the heading to "We oppose discrimination". Because equality is ambiguous and relational. For example (though a wild one), do we treat a criminal and a common man equally when we need to raise funds for some social service/activity? So better than marking a "Conditions apply" to "equality", I suggest we change it to "We oppose discrimination"
