Give your views on the farming protests

PV Pirate Vik Public Seen by 54

I have been contacted by my local MP https://members.parliament.uk/member/4617/contact who is looking for viewpoints on the farming protests in India so that he can write appropriately on behalf of his Indian constituents, to the UK foreign minister. Please give your views on this thread so that I can share them.

I would support the first paragraph, but the second is needlessly sarcastic and takes away from the factual stance of the first paragraph.

ok I will create a new proposal with just the first paragraph.

Yes a clean up based on facts would be good, if you want to make Jokes and Memes then Social Media only. But not on official accounts from the Pirate Movement unless approved by members.

I would like to raise the question that as a government, should India support cultivation of water intensive crops like rice in punjab where there is a steady decline in ground water level.

Even the Punjab own Rural economist demanded that government should push farmers to step away from Wheat and Rice cycle...

Plus the issue with Punjab Farmer is their rampant use of pesticides. Which is more than any other state... That already ruined the ground water completely...

I think that's an issue with government who taught farmers that approach https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Revolution_in_India

What earlier government did that's in past it doesn't mean things can't be change...

Sure, but in the green revolution they heavily subsidised the move and so to create a similar move towards organics, should have a similar supported approach

Do you know the situation of food scarcity of that time?

This is what government trying to do and that is what all the so called NDTV experts, Congress, and all the previous economist demanded for....

Now fliping backward, because of politics but the move is positive and welcome step..

Yes, my dad was manager at one of the largest farms in Punjab and his job was converting everyone to the green revolution. He regrets heavily now that they tried to solve food scarcity with chemicals.

But this has nothing to do with the current situation where in fact, the government hastily wrote really bad legislation that did not sufficiently consult the people who would be effected and resulted in mass demonstrations and the law being suspended in the supreme court.

We should expand on the statement, talk about the farm laws, nature of the protests, state of agriculture in the country.

Can you propose a draft of what you'd like to see added ?

RS

Riya Sawant Thu 11 Feb 2021 4:46PM

I would prefer it if some of us could work together on the draft.

Sounds good. How about an audio conference? Suggest a time that works for you if that is okay.

RS
