Assembly Elections

DU [deactivated account] Public Seen by 331

I would like to suggest that at least 1 or 2 of us become candidates in this 2016 Assembly Elections. I know we are not enough number to be a political party, but our intention will be to spread the pirate ideas. I feel that we can reach out to a few more like minded people through this effort.

Would like to know your thoughts in this matter.

7-agree, 7-disagree and 1-abstain. Right through the middle. But more importantly no one blocked (disagreement on fundamental principle). So I'll proceed with contesting elections with those who agreed with me. We'll also try to find candidates we can support and campaign for them too.

We should contest in upcoming elections.

Although not completely convinced with the idea, I feel this is the perfect time to enter politics. With the heat surrounding the net neutrality debate, a lot of people could relate to a group like ours.

You'll get some publicity and that spreads our ideas.

I agree, let's spread our ideas through this.

What is the point? Awareness we can do like that only. We can simply promote a movement that wants to be a party, and raise awareness and form a party. Contesting as independent knowing we lose makes little sense.

Why pick the least efficient way to "spread" our ideas? Especially when we haven't done anything significant for people to even recognize us. (Remember the "Pirates are thieves" argument. We haven't even posted a statement towards correcting that.)

This is a good way to reach out to more people. In election campaigns candidates can go door to door explaining their views and ideas. They talk face to face. There is no better way tospread ideas than this.
