Share a photo easily with other apps or via bluetooth etc

Would this be like a superpowered clipboard manager? (Operations like "copy from Nautilus/eog/ristretto, paste to Dino/Geary" work well for me, so we could repackage that same functionality. The receiving apps would also have to support it though, to allow picking/starting a conversation before the paste takes place)
