Wiki dead ?

I can setup ngnix and php in the poddery server. Should it be just fosscommunity.in or wiki.fosscommunity.in?

fosscommunity.in, as we have been using that domain for some time and if old links can work, it would be a plus.

Just to be clear which wiki are we talking about ? The one on pirateparty which is down or some other wiki ?

I have recovered all the pages in namespaces except "User".

Remaining tasks
1. Comb through user table. This is cumbersome because first we need to import 17 gb sql dump which alone takes so much time. Then we need to comb through user table to find non-spam ones. I have told before that we need to consider whether to retain users. Hrishi said he can help, but he became busy with resigning from his job at Bangalore and then he went to Trivandrum. So couldn't contact with him properly.

1. Comb through spam images. This I believe I can do, but only after December 6. I had already done this once, but a sudden computer crash made me format my hard disk and I forgot to take backup of /var/www folder.

Please go through the site I gave and see if it is ok. If so, we can take the wiki up with that and do the two remaining tasks afterwards. However, we need to fix how to prevent this from happening in future. We had all common anti-spam extensions activated, like SpamBlacklist etc. We need to discuss more security measures.

In my opinion, if we want the wiki ASAP, let us take it up with what all we have in hand and fix the issues on the run.

I have contacted Anivar for updating the DNS records to point to the poddery server. Once that's done, I can configure the web server part and we could get the Wiki up.

@balasankarchelamat , we can add two factor authentication, at least in the beginning, we could turn it off for short times later to see if it holds. I have found this option in localbitcoins.com. You will get a code and 100 keys matching that code, you'll be asked to enter each code each time you login. You are supposed to take a print out or save the codes. It is a bit too much for a wiki, but if that is a choice between keeping the wiki running or shut, I'd choose to keep it running.

@manukrishnantv there is already one extension https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TwoFactorAuthentication we may have to add paper codes option though.

@praveenarimbrathod @balasankarchelamat Anivar has updated the DNS records and so the domain is now pointing to poddery.com. I'll be creating a virtual host and redirecting it to a blank page. Let me know when the wiki data is ready.

@manukrishnantv can you install a mediawiki instance on it? Name "FOSS Community of India". I will import the pages on saturday...

2. Will clean up images and add them soon. So many unnecessary images exist in my database.
3. User registrations temporarily closed (until we find a way to fight spam).

However, a problem persists. I left the wiki open for a little time yesterday night and got a BIG LOAD of spam registrations within that few time. So, the spambot still attacks fosscommunity.in. All the common Spam blocking plugins are installed and still this happens.

Everyone plese suggest, better anti-spam measures.

If, none is found, we will be forced to make the wiki "registration by admins only" permanently.. :(

Images uploaded. I used regex to delete unwanted images. So, some necessary images may have got deleted. If anyone of you find red link on any Image, do report it.

Now, I believe the tasks within my technical know-how is over. Now suggestions needed to prevent spam and combing user table.

@balasankarchelamat Can you consult with Anivar, who maintains the SMC wiki? Its also on the same server now.

@balasankarchelamat thanks a lot! Now can you guide someone new to restore chamba wiki? It would be good to have more people who know to admin media wiki.

I can try.. Btw, do we have a DB backup of Chamba Wiki? And, do we have a group for Chamba?

@balasankarchelamat I have some of the tables. User table is gone though. Its around GB's now. Let me find a way to share that with you.

@manukrishnantv FCI wiki was abt 4 GB. Do you have it in your local system?? If so, one day I can come to Ernakulam.

I have many copies of the DB lying around in my office systems.

@balasankarchelamat it would be good to have more people knowing how to do it. So ask if Alfaz or Sarath wants to sit with you and learn it.
