move the wiki to poddery server Closed Wed 25 Sep 2013 4:46PM

Mediawiki instance at fosscommunity.in (currently down) was running on a dreamhost shared plan Anivar has, but he wants to move it out. Can we host the wiki on poddery server? I don't think it would be too heavy, but we got to really stop spammers.

Yes - move to poddery server
No - find another solution

Yes. But keep spam under control first. Also, I am suggesting something other than mediawiki like moin moin.

@pavithrans , @balasankarchelamat and @hrishikeshakastult is working on restoring it. There were things added after we migrated from wikia.

Why should every wiki be on mediawiki? Dokuwiki with the monobook theme looks similar to mediawiki default installation, has better spam protection features and easier to handle. Can we give that a try?

Not sure about the data migration.

@manukrishnantv if we can migrate date, then yes.

Found this: https://www.dokuwiki.org/tips:mediawiki_to_dokuwiki_converter
But someone has to try. I have always felt bulky with mediawiki, and many features are not at all used.

I have all the content pages restored. The only thing remaining is "user" table. I am doubtful whether to spend energy and time on combing the user list off spam OR just to start registrations fresh. If the number of registered (and non-spam) users is less than 100, we can ask them to register again. My suggestion is that.

Since everyone agreed to move the wiki to poddery server, what's the next step? I can help setup the domain with php + nginx running.

What about the data, wiki software to be used and anti spam measures?

@balasankarchelamat do we have a date in mind when we can have wiki running again?
