Should we switch to postgresql? Closed Tue 2 Sep 2014 1:35PM
We'll move out services using mysql before we switch. We are in the process of freeing up mysql.
Looks like there is big performance improvement switching to postgresql. See https://poddery.com/posts/1305296

Postgres obviously will give good performance over MariaDB , if its easy and wont affect anything please make the switch.

I have given more RAM to mysql for caching and if we see performance problems again, we'll switch immediately.

I don't know about any comparison b/w databases. If the knowledgable see postgresql as a better choice, we must switch immediately.

I am fine to move to Postgresql, but only after moving all other sites using mysql to somewhere else, so that we could stop MySQL. Running MySQL alongside with Postgresql for the diaspora instance will increase the memory usage.

Are we hosting any other websites like SMC's or fosscommunity.in? If so, we can ask them to migrate.

apparently everything is fixed :)

@balasankarchelamat , yes that would save us some space.

Seems like log files are the major culprits. Almost 27G in Diaspora logs.
Also, the old files from the migration still exists in server, which counts to around 10G.

We should setup monitoring in the server for future issues like this.
@juansantiago thanks for the heads up. @manukrishnantv nagios?
