Private messaging focused phase 2
First phase was targetting normal users, I propose we do a second phase targetting student contributions to xmpp based encryption, improving apps like conversations, chatsecure, kontalk to interoperate. OMEMO should be available everywhere and should be default.
- We should visit campuses where Free Software already has roots.
- We should talk to all these projects and find mentors
- We should crowd fund so students can be paid for their work.
- Think of it like Google Summer of code or RailsGirls summer of code but focusing on standards based, federated, encrypted messaging
More ideas: Make it easy to run kontalk and diaspora from same xmpp server, initially as virtual hosts and later as integrated.

@jayaura great! We can prepare content here.
Let me list the basic points,
- Why we need privacy?
- Why only Free Software (we should be able to audit and verify binary correspond to source)?
- Why we need federation (we should not depend on any single entity and if required, we should be able to run our own service)?
- Explain encryption and end-to-end encryption
- Explain benefit to computer science students (or those who like coding) in contributing to Free Software.
- introduce apps, standards (kontalk, conversations, chatsecure, zom, briar, pidgin, gaj, pgp, otr, omemo)
- show specific tasks like 'omemo for kontalk'

First task I want to focus on is OMEMO for kontalk https://github.com/kontalk/androidclient/issues/132#issuecomment-220278601

What are the plans for funding? Have anybody promised any sum which we can provide to the students? How much would be the amounts like ?
Pirate Praveen Mon 23 May 2016 5:08PM
@jayaura once we find the students, we can go for crowd funding. I was thinking about 1000 usd per project.

Hi,
Sorry for being late. We had internals and project going on.
I've been running behind a permission for this year's FOSS Conference at our college. I got permissions for ICEFOSS '16 to be conducted in August this year at FISAT. I think it will be a great platform to promote this second phase. We are thinking of a session from the dy2 team.
I'm having exams until 16th of June. So I'll join the campaign once my exams are over.

And I think we can get some FOSS enthusiasts at the meet for the development.

I can deliver a session at my college, School of Information Science, Manipal University. I'll be going back to college for delivering my final internship report. Date I can finalize in one week.
The target students are from Embedded Systems, VLSI, etc. I will need some help making the content, what to present.
